The Trinity Building Program is Not Going Forward

A Summary of Major Phases in the

Trinity Church Building Project 1996 – 2006

 1. 1960 – 1996 Trinity Episcopal Church has watched since the 1960’s as neighboring mainline congregations chose to leave their old town Manassas locations and move to the more spacious “suburban type” locations. Through out that time the congregation had many formal and informal discussions of what was the best choice for us. In 1996 Trinity chose to stay at its current location and be all that it could be.

2. 1996 – 2000 Trinity begins an active program expanding our ministries and conducts a feasibility study for building at this location. Our conclusion is that we can build a sufficiently large sanctuary and expand other support space to make the project work. The major drawback that we see at this time is the limited amount of parking space that the church will have available for weekday activities.

 3. 2000 – 2004 Working with a targeted construction budget of $3.7 million a plan takes shape that will re do all existing buildings including new roofs and HVAC and that will add approximately 20,000 sf of new facilities.

 4. 2004 – 2005 As construction prices begin to rise, primarily in the areas of steel and concrete, we reduce the scope of the project to only the areas of new construction. That plan goes out to bid in the fall of 2005 and we receive a construction bid of $4.5 million for the proposed 20,000 sf of new construction. The bid does not include pews, kitchen fixtures and other “essentials.”

5. Dec. 2005 – January 2006 we take a rest.

 6. February 2006 – September 2006 After parish discussions we restart the building project and plan to build only the sanctuary, an area of 8,775 sf. In September 2006 the bid for this construction returns at $3.35 million. We have reduced the area of construction by 56% but the price has only decreased 26%.

At this point we have concluded that going forward with this building program is not the best way to strengthen the mission and ministry of Trinity Church for the present or the future.
