God Calls us to the Fullness of our Potential

He was an eager young man who had come into my office with some questions. He had been to church some as a child and he knew church had had value to him and his family at one time. Now as a young adult he was trying to get his head around the church idea. The way he put his questions me made me really think. He asked,

“The God Thing, what is it really about? Bottom Line?”

Bottom line for me is God Loves us and wants to be in relationship with us. God reaches out to us in this relationship calling us to strive for the fullness of our potential. God calls each of us to discover and strive for the fullness of our potential. We do this as followers of Jesus because Jesus lived not only into the fullness of his own potential but lived into the fullness of all humanity.

Our potential is discovered in the journey of seven paths:

Worship   Prayer   Hospitality    Service   Evangelism   Study   Family

Not by one path but by the journey of all these paths we live into and discover the fullness of our potential. Most of us find that we have a natural tendency to favor some of these paths and to shy away from others. If we always explore the path we favor and we never journey on the path we dislike or find difficult then it becomes like always taking the easy road and we cease to grow stronger. By trying the unfamiliar and less favored path we are tested. We learn new skills. We grow. And sometimes our weaknesses become our strengths.

As a church we seek to offer people opportunities and training in each of these paths.
