Preaching the Resurrection

I often hear that Vinnie and I preach a very different message than people have heard before. A portion of this may be style but in reality most of it is in our underlying theology. As I listen to preaching I realize that there are at least four theological categories that are central to the gospel message. 1. An underlying theology based on the birth of Jesus (the incarnation) 2. Jesus as teacher or guide. 3. The crucifixion and 4. The Resurrection.  I don’t believe that any preacher exclusively stays in one of these categories but one of these categories can be the central lens through which all other messages are understood. May 18
Baptism Classes Begin April 27
Those desiring to be baptized or desiring
to have a child baptized should contact
the church office, 703 368 4231. The three part baptism classes meet on Sunday mornings at 9:45 am.
April 27, May 4 and 11

For many preachers in America the crucifixion is the central point of their message. They would quite rightly tell us that they do so because they follow in the path of St. Paul who wrote to the Corinthians saying “I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” But there are many other writers in the New Testament whose understanding of Jesus was focused on one of the other paths.

I believe all four are paths by which we enter into relationship with God. During this season of Easter we focus on the resurrection. Jesus reveals to us that there is new and eternal life with God and just as importantly, from his teachings we understand that through faith and hope we can begin to live into that new life now.

HELP US STAY IN THE LOOP!

We want to know what is happening in your life and with your family.

Please call the office (703.368.4231) email us (info@trinityepiscopalchurch.org).

Please do not assume that we will somehow know what is happening in your life, or the life of a friend or neighbor! Inform us when you are having surgery, when a loved one dies, when someone gets difficult news, when a family is suffering. The Trinity staff wants to be there for you and with you when you celebrate life’s passages and when you are facing any sort of crisis.

Help us help each other. Let us know.
